  • 3R PUROGENE is a 2% solution of stabilized chlorine dioxide (ClO2) intended for RV and marine water systems. It contains no free chlorine, is EPA-registered for drinking water treatment, and is compatible with plastic, metal, or fiberglass tanks. The product is non-toxic and biodegradable.

For general water treatment, use 1 fluid ounce (2 tablespoons) of 3R PUROGENE per 30 gallons of drinking water. This yields a 5 ppm ClO2 concentration. Apply this ratio to each new addition of water in the freshwater tank to maintain continuous control of bacteria and odors.

To disinfect a drinking water system, use 2 teaspoons of 3R PUROGENE per gallon of tank capacity. Mix the required amount in a clean container with Citric Acid Activator Crystals at a ratio of 0.5 teaspoons of crystals per 1 ounce of 3R PUROGENE. Allow the mixture to stand for 5 minutes in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes. Add this activated solution to the water tank and fill with potable water. Run all faucets to distribute the solution, top off the tank, and let it stand for at least 1 hour. Drain the tank, refill with potable water treated at the standard 5 ppm rate, and flush all faucets again to purge the sanitizing solution.

When activated with citric acid, 3R PUROGENE produces increased levels of chlorine dioxide for enhanced antimicrobial activity. This treats pathogens such as Legionella, Streptococcus, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus, and removes biofilm. For example, a 100-gallon tank requires 32 ounces of 3R PUROGENE activated with 4 ounces of Citric Acid Crystals. (Measurement conversions: 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons; 1 ounce = 2 tablespoons).

Store 3R PUROGENE in a cool, dark environment. For long-term water storage, use potable water with low mineral content in containers free of oil, detergent, ammonia, or organic contaminants. Do not use unlined steel containers.

To prepare water for long-term storage, add 1 fluid ounce of 3R PUROGENE per 30 gallons of capacity, fill with potable water, and seal airtight. Store the containers in a cool location away from sunlight. If using semi-opaque containers, cover them with entirely opaque materials to prevent UV deterioration of the chlorine dioxide.

Check the ClO2 concentration of stored water at least annually. Test more frequently if containers are exposed to high temperatures or potential sunlight. Use an Oxystix™ test strip or a test kit specifically designed for Purogene (standard chlorine dioxide tests are incompatible). If the concentration drops to 0.5 ppm or lower, retreat the water at a rate of 1 fluid ounce per 30 gallons. Discard the water if it becomes cloudy or develops an odor, then clean and disinfect the container using the 50 ppm protocol before reusing.
