Purogene Use Instructions

3R PUROGENE: Advanced Water Treatment for RV and Marine Systems
3R PUROGENE is a high-purity, 2% solution of stabilized chlorine dioxide (ClO2). Unlike traditional bleach treatments, Purogene is EPA-registered for use in drinking water and contains no free chlorine. It is specifically formulated to eliminate foul odors, enhance the taste of stored water, and control the buildup of microbial slime and bacteria in fresh water tanks and plumbing lines.
1. Fresh Water System Sanitization (Shock Treatment)
This procedure is designed to disinfect the entire plumbing system and kill existing biofilm. This process requires activation to reach a concentration of 50 ppm.
- Dosage: Use 1 fl oz of 3R PUROGENE per 10 gallons of tank capacity.
- Activator: Use 1 tsp of Citric Acid Crystals for every 1 fl oz of Purogene.
Step-by-Step Procedure:
- Measure the required Purogene into a clean plastic or glass container.
- Add the Citric Acid Crystals. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes to activate. DO NOT breathe the fumes.
- Pour the activated solution into the tank and fill completely with potable water.
- Turn on the water pump and open every faucet (hot and cold) until the solution reaches all points in the system.
- Refill the tank to replace any solution drawn into the lines.
- Let the system stand for at least 1 hour.
- Drain the entire system and flush with fresh potable water.
2. Long-Term Storage and Preservation
Use this method to keep already-clean water fresh and bacteria-free for months. Do not use Citric Acid Activator for this application.
- Dosage: Add 1 fl oz of 3R PUROGENE per 30 gallons of water.
- Procedure: Add Purogene directly to the tank while filling with fresh potable water.
- Maintenance: Check ClO2 levels annually. If levels fall below 0.5 ppm, retreat at the original 1 oz per 30-gallon rate.
